tree on hill

Prompt: The year is 2035. After a week of high temperatures, the news reports that temperatures will be above 95o for at least another week with temperatures topping out at 100 degrees. The news is also reporting that the air currents that brought wildfire smoke to the area, will continue as well reducing visibility and contributing to an air quality index above 200 for the next few days (very unhealthy, with the risk of health effects increased for everyone).

The Grove at Pierce Camp Birchmont was more than just a cluster of trees—it was a sanctuary. Nestled within the U-shaped arrangement of cabins in Boys Camp, the Grove felt like its own little world. The trees stood tall and steady, their leaves whispering softly with every breeze, as if they were sharing secrets only they could understand. Cicadas buzzed in the background, their steady hum blending with the occasional bursts of laughter—or sometimes tears—from campers nearby.

The air smelled earthy and fresh, with the faint sweetness of pine sap lingering in the warm sun. When the wind swept through, it wasn’t just cool; it felt like it carried away the weight of whatever was on your mind. Sitting in the Grove, surrounded by the rustle of leaves and the comforting chaos of camp life, it felt like time stopped. Everything beyond that space seemed distant and unimportant. It was a place where you could just be.
