Story 31

tree on hill

Drawing on your knowledge of climate change projections, write a first person narrative of a day-in-the-life in a context in which as a society we implement significant climate adaptation and/or mitigation strategies. What does 2050 look like in your life under those conditions?

The “best one yet” war ended in 2030. After 4 long years of fighting the American empire has fallen. With this came the removal of imperial bases worldwide followed by a large cut to the military’s monetary budget. Through this, the government was restructured. Politicians’ monetary opportunities decreased with the restructuring. For example, All insider trading was harshly punished with the removal of the position being an immediate action, salaries were cut, and campaign funding was completely restructured to not attract the appeal of those with monetary interest. Along with arresting major figures who have previously attempted to interfere with such affairs. This left the Recovering US desperate for resources for re-establishment. Leading to a tax on assets increasing the liquidity of the surplus of individual and corporations’ bloated equity. With this change, public focus began to shift. I remember finding it odd here that the news talked about the liquidation of billionaires as a positive. This was a reflection of government priorities. By limiting monetary motivation the top priority became education, healthcare, and economic sustainability. No longer being the dominant superpower the US had to alter its global market to be a bigger supplier. Since now they are unable to dictate the supply chains of such operations.

I wish I could sleep longer. However, the eight-year-old people’s elbow I was receiving was not going to help me with that. Why is he even here? It’s Thursday, that’s a school day…..right? I didn’t have to think about it long “SNOW DAY, SNOW DAY, SNOW DAY!!”. God damn he’s right the driveway was covered. I am supposed to go to work but maybe the snow is so bad I can’t even get to the bus, and maybe my car is covered. I emailed my coworkers about my restrictions today and then packed the car to take everyone sledding. Thankfully these snowstorms aren’t that rare anymore. This meant only one thing, it was a responsibility for myself, and others around to share. It is to be able to recreate what I had as a kid. So I and a few other parents built a a snow tube trail at the golf course. The best sledding spot there is. When it got dark we went home for dinner, and then to watch a movie. Afterward, I head to bed without a worry on my mind.
